in MH3, the first offline barroth was a total screw over. in MHP3 however, its one of those "all too easy" (darth vader FTW) moments. you really dont need much, i killed him with hunters armor and the iron katana upgraded once. Do you find this valuable?

Barroth is easily beaten in MHP3rd. Recommended weapons are Fire Element (usually from Qurupeco). The only thing you need to worry about is dodging his charge, other then that, you should be able to destroy him... Assuming you keep attacking him.
Protip- Rotate the control stick when you get muddy for a faster break out, it's just as fast as using a Cleanser.

The same applys for every monster in my opinion. Bring flash bombs, traps and stuff to make more traps. Water element rks best for me as fir is only good when you hit him on his stomach and he barely rolls around in the mud. Another great strategy is to trap and bomb his tail then repeat. When he charges you can simply hit him in his head mid charge to stumble him if he has taken enough hits before charge but that takes a few runs to estimate. You can make ignot armor by going to online and farming tundra and volcano very early to make his hits do almost no damage. Do you find this valuable?

Well, as far as Elements go, Barroth's weak to Water when he's covered in mud (which isn't very often). He's weak to Fire when bare. Overall he's weakest to Ice (but you wont be able to snag a good Ice weapon yet without a lot of effort).
As BeastxJason said, Flash Bombs are great, Traps are good too.. but having extra Trap materials isn't really worth it since he'll start resisting the traps. Since your new, I wouldn't recommend trying to stagger him out of charges, since that could mean death if you miss. You just need to learn his attacks & his tells a bit more is all.
You need to hit him to do damage, so keep the heat up.

flash bombs are not all that effective against barroth, but whenever i fight barroth i use a hammer of some sort, hammers are good for rute wyvern with the exception being deviljho. the large head is great for hammers since it likes to face you and when it does, you can KO him without a thought. but of course thats because i'm using the silver rathalos hammer.
