Note:
All information on this page are rough translations of the Japanese text taken from Capcom's "Hunter's Encylopedia Royal Paleontology Scriveners" books 1, 2, G, and 3.... as well as the recently localized "Monster Hunter Illustrations."

Despite popular belief within the MH community, the world of Monster Hunter is NOT called Minegarde. This is probably due in part by the localization of Monster Hunter Freedom's Info magazine. In the section "The Lay of the Land", a geographer states, "I'm the top geographer in Minegarde." Some fans took that this meant the person being the top geographer in the world and wrongly assumed that Minegarde was the name of this world. Minegarde is actually just the name of a town.

"
At first, we didn't want to create an actual map. In fact, we had somehow convinced ourselves that we could get away without ever making one. We were afraid that putting the world down on paper, showing which areas linked where and how far it was from one place to another would in some way make the world of Monster Hunter seem too finite. But as development progressed, we realized that a lack of a map was too much of an inconvenience. In the end, we decided to compromise by blurring out most of the world map and showing an area that was the world of Monster Hunter 'this time'. It was our plan to add more areas and expand farther out as the series moved forward."

Schrade Region

Schrade Region Map

Schrade Castle (シュレイド城)
Castle Schrade
Towns and villages in the Schrade Kingdom were reduced to ruins and have become a den for monsters. The Kingdom of Schrade was a neutral zone before it was divided. The cause of the division remains a mystery.
Theory: Schrade Castle was home to royalty of the Schrade Kingdom. But due to class inequality and the king's absolute rule, a civil war was waged and the kingdom was split into two cities: Veld City (the upper class) and Liber City (the working class). The area now acts as a demilitarized zone. After the war, the black dragon Fatalis started inhabiting the area.

Known references in-game: Battle area for Fatalis
"Castle Schrade is an ancient castle located in the vast open plain in the center of Schrade. Once a splendid feudal manor, it is now a mere shadow of its former glory, surrounded only by the ruins of the villages and towns that used to encircle it. So complete is the devastation, that no one remains to mourn its passing." - MHFU Info Magazine, "About the Swamp Zone", Pg.2

Verudo / Veld (ヴェルド)
The largest city in the western Schrade region, the royal capital. Known as a fortress city, with exterior walls built around street folks, it's characterized by cannons and ballistas in all directions. A prosperous city at first glance, and appears lively, though its inhabitants are only those who possess economic power. People without the economic strength, the so-called poor, live outside the city walls in an area known as the painting district.

Riveru / Liber (リーヴェル)
The largest city in the eastern Schrade region, and capital of the Republic. A flourishing city with trades to various places throughout the east, with many people coming in and out with materials. Liber City has become famous for the trade caravans that are used to slay monsters. The area is located in a basin surrounded by steep mountains with long winters and severe weather. Of course, the city has many facilities in place for the Winter season, like its hot drink stands, which should be exercised with caution. Furthermore, there is an enormous tower at the center of the town filled with artillery, much like Veld City, and is intended for monitoring monsters.

Himeroon Mountains (ヒンメルン山脈)
A series of high mountain peaks, also called the "Limitless Mountain to the Sky". Beyond the mountains east of Schrade are widespread temperate regions.

Known references in-game: MHFU info magazine, "About The Town" Pg.2

Kokoto Village (ココット村)
Kokoto Village is located at the foot of a mountain. With mild climate, the villagers engage in subsistence living. Nearby monsters often emerge, including a One Horned Wyvern that seldom appears in the mountains of Kokoto. However, the villagers depend on its chief, a former hunter, on understanding the ecology of such monsters to maintain a relatively well relationship with them. Should a monster appear to threaten their lifestyle, hunters would be commissioned.

A town southwest of the Schrade Kingdom in the frontier lands that are still widely unexplored. Situated on a small flat landing in the middle of a table-like cliff, the complex terrain is not suitable for agriculture. The town was originally meant as a village for people to live in, however, the harsh environments have changed its focus towards an urban development for hunters and the Hunter's Guild, achieving great results in the progress. Moreover, it is far from any of the Kingdom's major cities. However, because of its close range to natural monster habitats, it makes for a convenient location for hunters. The hunted monsters yield large amounts of meat and bone material, which are important trade goods to kingdoms without an abundance of monsters. As well, a variety of resources can be collected in the area to meet the basic necessities of life. Of course, not everyone who lives in the town is a hunter. The town is equipped with multiple cannons for defense. The market west of the square is a symbol of the town's vitality. For a city located in a remote area, it possesses advanced technology. Some of this technology was learned from the Mainland Kingdom.

The city was built in the rugged mountains by the hands of indigenous people.

Pokke Village (ポッケ村)
Pokke Concept

Pokke Village Theme Music
A village located in the highlands, near the Furahiya Mountains. People actively live in the village on a small scale, despite the harsh conditions. It has recently become a major site for hunters wishing to hunt in the snow.

A village used by hunters as a base and relay point when out hunting. The road that runs through the village was created long ago by a Lao-Shan Lung. A single hunter goes around the village handling requests. Materials from the East are transported across the Jio-Kruk (ジォ・クルーク) sea, which lies just outside of the village.

A relatively new village on the banks of a giant lake, called the Great Circle Lake of Melchitta. Meteorites had crashed in the past to form craters and have turned into a huge lake over time. Originally a small village for mere hunters, scholars from Minegarde had occasionally visited to study the lake, but as more visitors increased, the place grew into a larger village.

Jio Wandoreo (ジォ・ワンドレオ)
The largest city in the frontier. It faces constant dangers from the unexplored lands beyond its boundaries. Originally built with exterior walls and crow's nest to guard against monsters in its infancy, it now boasts as one of the most robust city in the region. Producing its own technology and serving as a trade center between the East and West regions have made it an accomplished development. With a giant raft that connects to the heart of the city, a variety of the goods that flow from east to west are handled here. Furthermore, it was Jio Wandoreo that brought the technology of Dual Swords to the Schrade region.

An oasis village built on the entrance of the desert acres to its south. The village is often swept with sandstorms carried from the desert, where few hunters have stepped foot. It is the site of a future hunting base, so great developments are expected.
Theory: This village may be an early settlement that later becomes Loc Lac City. Loc Lac is also bombarded with sandstorms from time to time.

North Oelde District (北エルデ地方)
A region mostly occupied by a range of volcanoes. A harsh environment known for high quality rare metals. Because of the threat from many monsters, there is an unending request to hunters for mining and slaying. Near the entrance of the volcanic areas, there is a small village called Nganga (ン・ガンガ), which has become a resting place for hunters journeying beyond the North Oelde District. The village is also known for its thriving blacksmiths. Many of the active blacksmiths from around the world were born here.
Theory: This blacksmith village may be the setting for an offline village in a future Monster Hunter game.

South Oelde District (南エルデ地方)
Located on the southern tip of a peninsula, the area is surrounded on three sides by the sea. While there is a small fishing village near the coast, they only trade with neighboring islands due to the volcanic region in the north.
Theory: The small fishing village may refer to Moga Village. Also, Yukumo Village could potentially be located on one of the islands as their topography hasn't been revealed to be flat or mountainous. The islands are also east of the large desert, where Loc Lac City may be located.

Acra Region (アクラ地方)
An area where the entire land is covered in ice. The rapidly changing weather can go from clear skies to a sudden snowstorm faster than you'd think. For a very severe environment, the habitation is very high, as there have been sightings of many ferocious creatures.
Theory: A possible location for the Tundra area. Certain areas in the Tundra are known to have snowstorms.

Aya (アヤ)
For generations, the king in absolute power have tried to rule over the island's tribes because of their unique culture. Though it has been confirmed that not all of them have severed their interactions with other ethnic groups, they are still shrouded in mystery.
Theory: The tribe is most likely referring to the Wyverians (known as the Dragon Tribe in Japanese), as there have been a few that have interacted with other cultures. The island also shows a small mountain range on the world map. Yukumo Village could also be located in this mountain valley, as its village chief is of Wyverian ancestry.

Shiki Country (シキ国)
A nation located on a far eastern island. Many years ago, a blacksmith from the Shiki Country drifted to Schrade in search of the "Arms of God" (神の腕) and had worked with the Guild's workshop for some time, passing on many technological teachings.

Yukumo Village (ユクモ村)
A flourishing village in the mountain valleys with a hot spring in its center. With few flatlands, the buildings are aligned along each side of the valley. The largest building, the heart of the village, is a spa house. The large outdoor bathing establishment serves as the Guild's gathering hall. Accommodations in nearby outhouses are available to hunters for their convenience. Facing the central street of the village is a general store and blacksmith shop. In addition to the spa industry, there is an active forestry to export high quality lumber to neighboring cities. Traditionally, the village had been safe due to the hunters that were visiting the hot springs at the time. But with the frequent appearance of large monsters recently, the village had requested the assistance of the Hunter's Guild.
