Magma Defense / マグマから身を守る術 Agnaktor's special outer shell is designed to withstand the intense heat of the Volcano. It was recently found that its body secretes a nonflammable fluid between the opening of its scales to protect the body from the magma's heat. Therefore, it can swim in the lava for long periods of time. It collects a reservoir of lava in its body, which solidifies when cooled, becoming strong enough to protect itself from predators.
Role of its Distinctive Bill / 特徴的な嘴の役割 One of its prominent features are its beak, which is hard enough to break through solid rock. There are many hard shelled creatures that inhabit the volcano, so it is believed that the beak evolved into this form in order for it to prey. Agnaktor uses its beak to crack into the shell of a Rhenoplos, and then digs in to feed on the meat. Because of their unique predation method, where a corpse is spotted, the chance that an Agnaktor is lurking nearby is very high. it claps its beak to make sound, in a variety of patterns and purposes, like to communicate, intimidate enemies, or when a young Agnaktor calls for its parents. In the event of a volcanic eruption or appearance of enemies, they will put out distinctive sounds to inform each other of danger.
Breeding Technique / 繁殖方法 During the breeding season, two mating Agnaktors will head for the summit of the volcano through a natural cave. Some become harsh and burrow through the ceiling. Further proof of its reproductive behavior comes from those that attack from the ceiling. When it burrows, it is said that you can determine its location by the sound and flow of lava. Because of the harsh environments causing the eggs to break inside the womb, Agnaktors give birth to as many as 50 juveniles, each 20-30 cm long. But because it takes a long time to grow, adult bodies are limited in numbers.
